I confess to being pretty freakin' obsessed with this series, and with one gorgeous red-headed Scot in particular. This second book was always my least favorite, but I enjoyed it more this time and cried my eyes out toward the end, even though...(what follows is not a spoiler since it's easy enough to tell that, since there are five more books in the series, this is not by any means the end!)

A grudging 3.5. Why can't I love this series? I think it's because the books are overlong — 700 pages where 500 (or 400) would do. I'll probably get around to reading them all, but not in succession.
