It was fun to read this winter book during the hot days of summer. Part of what made this a good book for me was I was interested in finding out more about Greenland from reading it. I found myself doing a bit of Googling and this helped me enjoy the story even more. It's great when a fiction book can do that. I enjoyed the many, many descriptions of different types of ice and snow. Perhaps I'll look at MN Winters differently now?

There are also titbits of wisdom and interesting turn of phrases that I highlighted at no end. However I have to say that as a whole the book disappointed me.

A very strange novel that ends unsatisfactorily. It starts as a detective story and immediately Hoeg sets a cracking but exciting pace. The writing is sharp and concise - typically Scandinavian. Then we reach a strange sex scene where I faltered. After this scene, the novel changes direction and becomes a scientific thriller mystery. The detective mystery has been solved in a large part. I really enjoyed the detective section - it was gripping and thrilling as a detective story should be. I enjo
