I picked this up because it was in some blog entry that said if I liked Gone Girl, I'd like this. I'd say they zeroed in on the wrong elements of Gone Girl, a classic readers advisory mistake. First I should be asked, what did I like about Gone Girl? Well it wasn't the characters, they were horrid (that's true in The Dinner too). This is one messed up, entitled, disgusting family. They don't believe in capital punishment; killing people for their own entertainment or convenience is understandable.

Ugh. I don't like this book. The premise is so interesting, about two couples who have kids with the same age and there was a serious issue that they need to talk about regarding to their kids. What is the issue? We don't know yet. The writer took time to bring us back and forth- from the present time, where these couples are sitting down in a fancy restaurant and eating their meals, to the past, where we were taken to see these people from different perspectives.

Absolutely fascinating and well written. Love how the suspense slowly builds and you learn more piece by piece. My problem comes with the ending and the decision that the parents make in the interest of the 'kids'. Rather dissatisfied with the outcome.
