The events in this book read like a novel. Wait this is a novel! The historical events are all true, but did Anne Morrow Lindbergh really think the way “The Aviator's Wife” thought?
Are Melanie Benjamin's characters' traits just speculation; a narrative to try to explain Anne’s actions? Making what seemed irrational decisions match with fictional internal dialog? According to Virnell Ann Bruce, who wrote a one-woman play on Mrs. Lindberg, Anne’s thoughts would not have turned out this way.

This book reads like a memoir of a woman trying to justify all the wrong doings of her husband. I didn't feel bad for Anne nor I felt sorry for her as she kept making excuses for all of her husband's unreasonable demands.
I learned a lot about aviation and historical aspects of it; hence the 3 stars rating. ...more

Not really my "cup of tea" type of book. I love adventure but it seemed more like a love story with maybe minus the love on Charles Lindbergh's part. Oh, wait that's not entirely true since he did father seven other children out of wedlock that wasn't his wife's. He tried to keep his affairs secret from Anne, his wife, till the end of his life. But, he tried to keep her hidden also from his mistresses.
Charles was a man who liked control in his life. Sometimes that isn't a bad thing unless you l ...more

How much do you know about Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wife of the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh? In this work of historical fiction, Melanie Benjamin seeks to unfold the drama of this famous woman's life and give the reader a glimpse of a woman who showed amazing courage and resilience during her turbulent life.
While I enjoyed the book, it might disappoint historical fiction purists. Benjamin was going for the emotional effect here, and not historical accuracy. This probably gives it more broad a ...more

I am amazed this book got the amount of praise it did. I found the writing very weak and repetitive. The story only comes to life during the climax, very boring before and after that.
The book is classified as historical fiction and according to the author, that was the reason why all the historical events mentioned are accurate whereas the motives explained and emotions described behind them are her imagination. That bothers me alot. Any story can be steered either way only by altering the reaso ...more
