I usually love Christopher Moore's books, but this one was truly awful. The only part I liked was the narrator, Euan Morton, who did a good job with each character.
I didn't mind that the story skips back and forth through time; I find it easy to figure out "when" it is. I just felt the story was a mess. Somewhere in the first 4 hours of this 10 hour audible book, I no longer cared about the characters or where the sacre bleu came from, I just wanted the story to end. I picked this off the new book shelf in the library because it was about Paris and I can't resist books about Paris. If I was catagorizing it, I would say it was a fantasy. It is about artists living in Montmartre area of Paris in the 1890s trying to solve the mystery of Van Gogh's death - was it suicide... or murder? Delightful, entertaining and with snippets of interesting tidbits about a smattering of the Impressionist painters of the late 1800s, Sacre Bleu was a curious and wiling suspension of disbelief read. The plot centers around the mystery of Vincent Van Gogh’s apparent suicide and the quest to solve it.
