I will start by saying that I don’t generally enjoy reading plays – I prefer to see them performed – but this play, is extraordinary. I highly recommend reading it, if a live theater performance isn’t available.

A Raisin In the Sun was certainly a commentary on race relations, but it's relevant to society on so many levels that go beyond just race. In this case an African-American family is fighting social injustice that plagues them because of their color. The family has their own internal disputes, and yet they band together to fight the world that would keep them down. Wow, I've been on a great reading streak recently. I haven't gotten a lot from reading plays in the past, but this was fantastic. It's so well written. Maybe my background in HS theater helped, but I could see this playing out on stage before my eyes (and I haven't seen this play performed). The characters are so well articulated, the relationships and dialogue so clear. I smiled, I worried, I got drawn into what choices the characters would make. I love this play! I seen it performed several times and watched two versions of the movie. It was very enjoyable to finally take the time to actually read the play. :) A Classic!

The dialogue is perfect in this must read classic.
