What Members Thought

First read of paperback, July 22, 2011. See below for audiobook comment.
★★★★★ Yes, five full stars! One of the best paranormal/fantasy books I’ve read this year! I wanted to read it faster, but real life got in the way. As it was, I had it planned for a future “buddy read” and peeked at the first few pages. Three chapters later I was e-mailing my GR friend to hint around about moving this one up in our queue; luckily, she agreed. Ha! Indeed, she finished the book before I did. This is the fi ...more

I read this so long ago that I've forgotten almost everything!
Still my favorite book in the series - loved Dragos, Pia and their relationship. One thing that I noticed in this re-read is that everything moved so fast (which is an issue I've had with plot points in this series.) Given that most of the Wyr heroes are hundreds of years old, I think I would have wanted some time to pass in between books and not every mating happening in a few months (after everybody being alone for centuries.) I thi ...more

This book has been recommended to me numerous times...well, I finally got around to it and am sorry I didn't read it sooner. What an awesome book...from start to finish! I loved the grouchy Drago and the feisty Pia! This is an amazing new world I've stumbled on and I can't wait to get more immersed!

Absolutely fantastic! I totally loved this book. Pia Giovanni has been kept protected by her mother for her entire life. Hiding from...well everyone. She is half-human, half-wyr though she has no idea what she would become since she cannot shift. Her mother has convinced her that it is extremely dangerous to let anyone know about her abilities. In her loneliness, she tells her boyfriend one thing and he uses it to blackmail her. Of course Pia is smarter than the average bear and she does what he

4.5/5 Very good opening to a new series!! Sexy as hell hero and great world building. What more could a girl as for. I loved the secondary characters also!! I can't wait to read the next one.

I listened to the audio version of this book, rather then read it. I think if I had read it I would have liked it much better then I did sadly.
I went through phases when it came to this book, the start I enjoyed. Then after about a quarter of the book I wasn't feeling it. I stuck with it until I got about half way or so, I was enjoying the story. The characters were starting to grow on me but then I got turned off yet again. But I stuck with it. And I ended up liking the story.

Great read.
Pia is my type of heroine: independent and kick-ass, no shrinking violent or damsel in distress.
Dragos is alpha to the core and my first, if I recall correctly, dragon shifter.
These two or total opposites in most ways, except where it counts. They are both fiercely loyal and honor bound.
Thea Harrison does a great job building this fantastic world filled with these wonderful supernatural creatures.

Delightful!
Witty and colorful characters, explosive chemistry, complex and interesting world and engaging plot, this was a thoroughly satisfying read from beginning to end!
Next comes Tricks and Tiago's story and, judging by their scene in this one, it's going to be fun! Looking forward to it! ...more

. Why did I take so long to read this?! I love dragon-shifters! And Pia Giovanni is very cool in her own right, except for her taste in men. I wish more books would be about Pia and Dragos! They are snarky and sassy and sizzling together, just like I love PNR. Thinking I'll be reading the next book soon!
I am bummed that Dragos is the only dragon-shifter, but looking forward to the gryphons & harpy.
