★★★★☆ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Well, I waited awhile to pick up the second in the Guild Hunter series and now I remember all the reasons why I did. Ms. Singh has created a brutal world of angels, filled with a little too much blood, violence and cruelty for my tastes. Still, this author is original in her world-building, writes amazing secondary characters, and is talented in her plot twists. Her take on Angels and Vampires is fascinating. I couldn’t help myself; I loved ...more

Newly-made Angel Elena, is vulnerable to everyone. Even the Cadre want her dead. Raphael has his hands full protecting her since she is a fighter and wants to fight her own battles. Elena went from being the strongest hunter to being the weakest angel. It's a hell of an adjustment for her and for Raphael.
I liked the progression of Elena's growth as an angel and guild hunter. Her weapons training and fighting technique took up a good portion of the book and was tedious at times. A lot of this cou ...more

This was so much more enjoyable to read than my last read book. I was a little worried I'd be turned off of Singh's books for awhile, but I've been wanting to read Archangel's Kiss since I reread Angels' Blood fairly recently.
Elena is getting used to her new body and her new relationship with Raphael. She also has to deal with new rules and new people now that she is no longer just a Guild Hunter, but a new Made angel, and a lover of an archangel.

This book (and series) is an interesting glimpse into a strange world where Angels are nearly immortal and are the makers of vampires. Elena, a Guild Hunter (hunter of vampires that have broken their "contracts" with the Angels that made them), (view spoiler)

Elena is trying to adapt to her new circumstances, and it is a challenge. It is like a child learning to walk and talk. The process is made even more difficult because she is used to being independent and taking care of herself, plus there are a few "people" who want her dead. Not to mention that suppressed memories or resurfacing about what happened to her mother and sisters.

In this second part of her story Elena learns the ropes of her new reality, while she recovers from the last book's events and gets immersed into Raphael's world, with its intrigue and ruthless, power-hungry beings.
The author tends to repeat certain phrases and that gets a bit tiring, but her stories are usually full of imagination and intriguing characters that make reading her books very enjoyable.

I had a couple of complaints with this book. I had completely forgotten the plot from the first book, so I wish she had recapped what had happened in the story a little better. There are too many angels to keep track of. I still have no idea which angels are which and who belongs to who and it's feeling a bit like Laurel K. Hamilton. I didn't get into this story until about 1/2 through. I kept trying to figure out what was going on. Other than that, it was alright.

I remember really loving the first book in this series, but maybe I waited too long to get back into it. I couldn't keep all of the characters straight and I had a hard time getting back into the world. The action was exciting but I wasn't fully invested in the story and didn't care for the characters as much as I would have liked. Not sure if I will continue with the series.

This is an incredible series! Elena continues to prove she is not some dumb chick that can't take care of herself...even as a newly made angel, still weak, she manages to kick butt! Raphael seems to still be at a lose for what to do with his hunter, but seems to be learning quickly that she will never be tamed! Can't wait to read the next installment! :)
