This is how it all began! The introduction to Monsieur Poirot and his unique and quirky style of investigation!
I read an Agatha Christie novel (Endless Night) after many years and felt so nostalgic that I decided to read all her books again in order.

This one has the inimitable Poirot in England during WW1 and he is called to the Styles mansion by his friend, Colonel Hastings, to investigate the death of the mistress of Styles, Emily Inglethorp.

Poirot's method of quietly nodding and suddenly gett

The first of Christie's Hercule Poirot novels, I was still fairly impressed with her mystery skill. Christie is without a doubt the master of misdirection and red herrings. The characters are casually anti-Semitic. The use of the n-word, while probably accurate to the time written and not directed at a person, was startling. The mystery was okay, and did keep me guessing, but I honestly did not care that much. ...more

Good, but not GREAT. I love Agatha Christie, and this is not one of my favorites of her works. Still, a solid mystery read, though. Christie is like pizza-- even when it's not the best, it is still pretty good, you know? --Jen from Quebec :0) ...more
