Q:
She breathed deeply of the scent of decaying fiction, disintegrating history, and forgotten verse, and she observed for the first time that a room full of books smelled like dessert: a sweet snack made of figs, vanilla, glue, and cleverness. (c)

My first Joe Hill, and boy, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree with this one! Excellent story, great atmosphere, maybe a little too long, but overall, 4 stars. I really liked it! ...more

And that's my first book in the horror genre done! A tome as well!
I always imagined gore and hanging flesh and singed skin when I thought of horror but this book pleasantly surprised me! It had a really good story backed up by a creativity that left me awed at the imagination of the author!
To build this entire world in his head and keep it consistent, while making sure the action and story gelled with each other is simply wonderful.

3.5. A great story that reminded me a bit of reading a Stephen King novel.....almost but not quite.
There was a bit too much of drag in this story near the middle. Great opening and almost as great ending. But I found near the middle I wanted to speed forward. I did really like the characters, they really felt real but not developed as well as I would have thought for the length of the book.

This is my first experience with Joe Hill's books - and I'll definietly be reading more from him. I loved NOS4A2. It was a big book - creepy with some really horrific elements, and all in all a good read. I forgive Hill for trying to paint a disturbing picture of my favorite holiday! I love it all - the never ending holiday music, the fake & very real over-the-top christmas cheer, the snow, the food - everything!!! And apparently Charlie Manx, the villain in this story, shares my love for Christ ...more

The beginning of the book was jumpy and hard to follow. The story didn't really pick up until about half way through. Satisfying ending. ...more

OMFGs!!!! This was a great piece of work! Action, horror, suspense, tie-ins of the familial and previous works type and so much style!!!

The gene pool coalesced and gave the Constant Reader a fabulous gift in Joe Hill!
