What Members Thought

With the protagonist Joe Ledger I am thinking of a blend of The characters James Bond, John Rambo and Jack Bauer from 24. The story actually is serving up a good slice of entertainment in the the hole that 24 and Jack Bauer no-more has left. It starts off the first half more of a cerebral approach of a thriller. Maberry writes with this story as if it has been ripped from today's headlines incorporating terrorism and political battles from across the shores. A good story that incorporates weapon

Although this novel does involve zombies, it's much closer to a spy thriller than it is a typical post-apocalyptic zombie novel. The outbreaks are very isolated and contained rather than affecting the entire planet.
The zombies are made through a disease that was created as a bioweapon and each generation of the strain is more infectious than the last. Joe Ledger, a cop about to turn FBI, is recruited into a super secret branch of the government to head one of the teams trying to stop the terrori ...more

What. A. Ride.
This book has it all: thrills, intrigue, history, mystique, danger, love, psychosis, tricked out secret underground cave laboratories, a character who transforms into a hero. Oh, and zombies. What more could you ask for?
I don't generally care for books that have zombies as the backdrop, becuase what I like about zombie books is the survival aspect. This book is more about how they got to be zombies in the first place, and the zombies are not the main focus - terrorists are.

This was a really fast and enjoyable read. The story revolves around Joe Ledger, a Baltimore cop who's involved in a raid on a suspected terrorist cell. After the raid leaves 13 terrorists dead, Joe is recruited by an ultra-secret government organization - where he finds out the terrorist weapon du jour is a zombie bioweapon. The pacing, characters and writing are all great and I really enjoyed the double- and triple-crosses in the plot. The story is clear, but you never really know who is worki

I'll tell anyone that will listen that Jonathan Maberry is one of my favourite authors. In the zombie genre he's something of a legend - after all, his multiple series cover just about every genre - Benny Imura is a YA Zombie series, Dead of Night is adult horror lover, and then there's Joe Ledger who is a dizzy combination of horror, action, thriller and conspiracy all rolled into one.
