I'm seriously without words to describe my love for this book. I went into this with 0 expectations, since Booktube started talking about it that I thought this wasn't the book for me, that I wouldn't enjoy it. But a couple days ago I saw someone here on Goodreads reviewing it 5 stars, and I was in a kinda of a reading slump, so I thought, why not?! And I picked it up. And I thanked the heavens for making this decision since page 1. I adored it! The only thing I will say I didn't like were the m I'm seriously without words to describe my love for this book. I went into this with 0 expectations, since Booktube started talking about it that I thought this wasn't the book for me, that I wouldn't enjoy it. But a couple days ago I saw someone here on Goodreads reviewing it 5 stars, and I was in a kinda of a reading slump, so I thought, why not?! And I picked it up. And I thanked the heavens for making this decision since page 1. I adored it! The only thing I will say I didn't like were the man clothes. But oh well, not that big of a problem.

I fell in love with the world, and all their culture. I loved every character except Tariq. I loved the stories Shazi told to Khalid. I loved that this was a retelling. I loved everything!!!

I'll start by talking about the romance. I think stories where hate is a really thing at first are one of my weaknesses. But it was to written decently. And this book is more than decently written. I absolutely adored seeing how Shazi hated Khalid at first and even she start to feel something more for him she fought it until she couldn't anymore. Until the moment when seeing Khalid in pain felt like she was dying, specially if she was the one provoking it. All the small moments. All the small touches. The words exchanged between them. It's all so beautifully written. I want to pick the book and read all my favorite parts all over again. I need to buy a physical copy of this soon.

Then it makes sense to talk about both Shazi and Khalid. I love Khalid with all my heart and soul. Broken boys with troubled pasts are another weakness of mine. Everytime we got to know a little more about who he was, about everything that he went through I loved him a little more than before. Most of the time I just wanted to pull him close and hug him until all the pain went away.
And Shazi! I also love her. Yes, she wants to kill my baby. She hates him so fiercely it's hard to believe all that emotion comes from a single person, but she also gets to know him, and accepts this new side of him. She accepts the broken boy and puts him back together. She puts a smile back into his beautiful lips and light into those perfect tiger eyes. And for that I love her.

Oh and I love Despina and Jalal. Even if I wanted to slap him senseless in the end. WTF boy. Really. But if the second book ends up with a HEA I will forgive him. And I hope he treats Despina the way she deserves to be treated. She deserves all the love he can muster to give her.

I hate Jahandra and fucking Tariq. Jesus. Aren't they blind?! Specially Tariq! I truly hate him. I just hope he either dies or he sees what's right in front of him. And that is that Shazi doesn't love him anymore. At all. Khalid is her air. So go the fuck away.

And now I'm dying for the next book, because that end?! *crying* Thankfully now I only need to wait two more weeks. And I already preordered it. Right after Raven King I'll be reading The Rose and the Dagger. And the author has to give us a HEA or else!!!!! ...more

Normalmente não dou cinco estrelas ao primeiro livro de uma serie, mas este merece. Mais que não seja porque me prendeu de tal maneira da primeira à ultima palavra que só o larguei quando terminei. Há muito tempo que tal coisa não me acontecia.
