I loved this book, but loved a lot more the first one. And I think I have a quite simple reason to justify it. No Darkling in this book! So this book is a 4.5 star for me.

Besides the no Darkling problem, I really don't have anything bad to say about this book. The world is still fantastic. The characters are flawless! And the action and intrigue around the book is awesome. We never know who to trust. Who's a spy and who is a friend. Who wants Alina to live and who wants to kill her. And that's s I loved this book, but loved a lot more the first one. And I think I have a quite simple reason to justify it. No Darkling in this book! So this book is a 4.5 star for me.

And that's something that just keeps you reading this books through the night.

Now the more specific part of the review. I'll start talking about the part where the Darkling did show up after the beginning. It made me want to hate him. And kill him. And torture him. But even though I can't hate him. I saw what he did, and I was so mad but I was still hoping that he and Alina could be together, and that he could turn good. But I'm still MAD!

Speaking of mad. I was also so mad at Alina! GOD. She was so stupid throughtout the book. She didn't trust anyone, not eve Mal. And ran away. And was so mean to Nikolai. And God give me patince. I hope she gets better in the last book. Because in this book, I couldn't deal with her.

My favourite character in this book was defenitely Nikolai! He was so freaking awesome I just wanted more of him. He's so sexy and sarcastic and awesome. Damn it. Oh and he's a freaking genious. I knew from the start who he really was and I want him to be King. Because I know he will be one of the great ones. He cares so much about his people. And I really can picture him ruling. Now who will be his Queen?! That's the question. I think he showed interest in someone, but I can't really remember who was the lucky one.

There are still a couple of characters I need to talk about. Mal is one of them. I still like him, and I can see that he really cares about Alina, but I still would rather see her with the Darkling. Then we met the Twins in this book. And I trusted them since the beginning. I don't know why, they were always trustworthy in my eyes. I still didn't see that plot twist coming in the end. Finally David, I really liked him in this book and I want him and Genya to end up together.

Finally I really liked this book. I speacially liked when Nikolai was with Alina. Because Alina by herself was a little depressing and boring. The Stormhound identity was pretty obvious for me since the beginning, so I wasn't really surprised. But the end of the book I wasn't seeing it coming. I expected Alina to confront the Darkling. But the rest of it was just a bunch of surprises. Some good, and others not that good. I'm really curious about the last book, even though I spoiled myself. I know who Alina will end up with and a major death. I'm not happy about it. ...more

Foi uma leitura rápida e que me deu algum prazer mas em certos momentos só resultou por causa da introdução de novos personagens e do mistério que envolve determinadas situações. Além disso, havia ali a situação do Darkling a pôr a minha veia bélica em brasa e a instigar à leitura.

A acção começa a bom ritmo e com a introdução de novos e cativantes personagens, o mistério em torno dos amplificadores e dos poderes de Alina vai-se adensando (porque é que eu continuo a achar que esta miúda é uma fra Foi uma leitura rápida e que me deu algum prazer mas em certos momentos só resultou por causa da introdução de novos personagens e do mistério que envolve determinadas situações. Além disso, havia ali a situação do Darkling a pôr a minha veia bélica em brasa e a instigar à leitura.

A acção começa a bom ritmo e com a introdução de novos e cativantes personagens, o mistério em torno dos amplificadores e dos poderes de Alina vai-se adensando (porque é que eu continuo a achar que esta miúda é uma fraude? Será que a autora não me consegue passar a verdadeira Alina ou a moça não passa mesmo de uma sonsa?) e a necessidade de fuga e lua pela sobrevivência é levada a um novo extremo enquanto a intriga política começa a ganhar forma. Nesta fase devo destacar o Sturmhond que é, sem qualquer margem para dúvidas, o personagem mais intenso e mais profundo de toda a trama. Inicialmente vemos nele apenas o palhacinho que alivia a tensão com piadinhas e depois, à medida que os acontecimentos se vão desenrolando, começamos aperceber a verdadeira dimensão e força deste personagem. Resultado? Quando damos por nós fomos totalmente conquistados por ele. Adoro-o!

Depois das primeiras 90 páginas o ritmo cai e o resto também. Levamos ali um ror de tempo a lidar com as inseguranças e ciúmes do Mal, as tontices da Alina, as vendetas tontas da Zoya e demais Grisha e coisas importantes como a situação do Darkling, a ligação da Alina com os Nichevo'ya e os Volkra ou a paranóia do Aparat são deixadas para trás. Aliás, a suposta intriga política está muito fraquinha. Como se isto tudo não bastasse, o raio do triangulo amoroso (coisa que me irrita imenso até na literatura) transforma-se num quadrado/pentagono muito pouco credível e que não traz nada de novo.

Finalmente, já no culminar da trama a acção volta a ter ritmo e embora bastante previsivel, o final é bastante satisfatório. Ainda assim, não é perfeito. Então aquela gente anda quase 200 páginas a trabalhar numa cena que depois nem serve para nada? A autora destrói as defesas do "lado bom da força" tão rápido e com tanta facilidade que aquela pseudo luta nem aos Nichevo'ya deve ter dado muita "pica". Depois de tanta preparação, embora satisfatório, desiludiu um bocadinho. Mesmo assim, conseguiu deixar-me com vontade de ler o terceiro volume embora ainda não tenha sido desta que consegui resolver os meus problemas com a Alina e o Mal. ...more

It was the second time I try to read this book and this time around I decide to go whit the audio book and I guess it worked out much better.

This was one of the series that has everything for me to love but as the second book end I could not get to really like it. I get the plot line and I think the universe of the grisha and the amplifiers and great potential but the characters...
I could not like Mal and Alina, they are so boring and omg the decisions they made.... The darkling have so much pot ...more

It was alright. I think there is something lacking in the plot of this series for me, and I simply am not attached to the characters.

In this book Alina grew a bit darker, which was interesting to see that in the main character.

Alina and Mal's relationship is not the best. I think that if Alina and Mal's places were switched, it would be a "problematic relationship" where the girl is living only for the guy and then sulking to get attention. However, I did not feel annoyed by Mal's actions as som ...more
