Um chick lit engraçado e divertido mas sinceramente esperava rir-me mais. Mesmo assim foi uma boa leitura e é um livro muito rápido de se ler.

Com uma capa que magoa os olhos, este livro é um dos chick lits mais bem falados dos últimos tempos e desde que saiu no ano passado que tinha vontade de o ler.
Peguei nele este mês e as expectativas foram correspondidas mas não posso dizer que tenham sido superadas.

Antes lia muito este género, li várias autoras mas sempre destaquei a Sophie 3,5 estrelas

Antes lia muito este género, li várias autoras mas sempre destaquei a Sophie Kinsella não só como a minha favorita mas como também a melhor dentro deste género. É a única autora que me faz rir e que não acho que as personagens sejam tão parvas assim, algo que acontece muito neste tipo de livros, especialmente com as personagens femininas, quase que são uma caricatura da parvoíce.

Isto tudo para dizer que foi o que senti um pouco com as personagens deste livro: a Lucy e o Joshua. Depois da fusão das empresas onde cada um trabalhava, Lucy e Joshua odeiam-se. Não gostam um do outro, não se toleram, não podem ver-se à frente. A forma que encontram em demonstrar esse ódio é nuna série de jogos durante o trabalho. O pior acontece quando é aberto um novo cargo em que basicamente um deles seria chefe do outro e é claro que nenhum deles quer perder. Mas como diz na capa, a linha entre o amor e o ódio é muito fina e lentamente vão percebendo que toda a tensão entre eles talvez não fosse ódio...mas sim amor.

A narração é feita maioritariamente pelo ponto de vista da Lucy, acho que o livro teria beneficiado de mais pontos de vista do Joshua mas mesmo assim a Lucy conseguiu transmitir alegria e energia ao livro, proporcionando um ritmo de leitura rápido.
O final é bom mas previsível mas não é por isso que deixamos de ler o livro. Também quando vemos aqueles filmes românticos já sabemos o fim e mesmo assim continuamos a ver. Este livro é como esses filmes e digo mesmo que daria uma óptima adaptação ao ecrã.

Não é um chick-lit mau mas também não me deslumbrou por aí além.

Odeio-te e Amo-te foi um dos romances do género que me lembro de ler com melhor jogo de palavras. os diálogos são bastante coloridos, com respostas bastante inteligentes, o que aumenta imenso a fasquia para os seguintes, como veio a acontecer com o romance de Erin Lyon que li posteriormente e que em breve vou publicar a minha opinião. A comparação é inevitável e às vezes desejamos não ter lido o anterior para podermos aproveitar melhor a leitura dos próximos, mas a vida é assim. Também não resis Odeio-te e Amo-te foi um dos romances do género que me lembro de ler com melhor jogo de palavras. os diálogos são bastante coloridos, com respostas bastante inteligentes, o que aumenta imenso a fasquia para os seguintes, como veio a acontecer com o romance de Erin Lyon que li posteriormente e que em breve vou publicar a minha opinião. A comparação é inevitável e às vezes desejamos não ter lido o anterior para podermos aproveitar melhor a leitura dos próximos, mas a vida é assim. Também não resisti e fazer comparações com o romance À Flor da Pele de Helena Hunting (opinião em breve) em que ambos os protagonistas masculinos são maníacos das limpezas e da organização, um patológico o outro nem por isso. Como vêem quando leio algo o meu cérebro desvia-se imenso a fazer este tipo de ligações e combinações nas várias peças que compõem um romance contemporâneo.
Achei as descrições dos momentos e dos sentimentos bastante originais, quase como se se tratasse de um poema descritivo. Ao inicio estranhei, mas depois comecei a esperar por estas descrições que normalmente tendemos a ler na diagonal.
O ambiente profissional cria todo um cenário diferente para este romance se desenrolar. Este último não começa no inicio, já que primeiro a autora nos apresenta cada personagem e cada dinâmica que podemos encontrar. Aos poucos e poucos vão surgindo então as oportunidades que nos vão levantando o véu do que esperamos encontrar: cenas engraçadas, cheias de tensão e atracção entre estes dois. Vendo tudo pelos olhos de Lucy as cenas ainda são mais queridas e empáticas, e, apesar de vermos o que ela não vê, é tudo pintado de forma bastante colorida.
Lucy e Joshua são rivais dentro da mesma empresa, que foi resultado de uma fusão, mas que conseguem estar distintas, mesmo que o objectivo seja diferente. Até os chefes são diferentes, mas estes dois trabalham diariamente frente a frente, ainda por cima rodeados de espelhos, o que achei um pormenor engraçado, já que Sally Thorne os aproveita muito bem.
Para cada livro temos que estar com um certo espírito, se não estes pequenos pormenores que tanto fazem a diferença vão nos escapar ou não os vamos valorizar tanto. Mas neste caso o meu humor estava no ponto certo e por isso acabei por apreciar muita coisa que noutras ocasiões me iria irritar de certeza.
Josh tem muitos segredos o que vai aumentar a atracção por ele exponencialmente quando sabemos que por detrás daquele belo espécime masculino não está uma personalidade nem fútil nem oca. Ambos os protagonistas são bem descritos, bem dotados de inteligência, como provam os seus currículos e certas cenas desta história. A autora fez bem o seu trabalho e não passa por cima de nenhum detalhe, que apesar de serem pequenos fazem toda a diferença na construção de uma boa história, com personagens interessantes e uma boa base. Não é um livro profundo cheio de drama, mas é um livro real, do quotidiano, com bons ingredientes para uma leitura rápida, satisfatória e que deixou saudades. Tenho imensa pena de não haver sequela, porque adorei conhecer este casal e acompanhá-los nesta luta.
Para além destes dois, há personagens que contribuem para certas cenas chaves, como a família de Lucy, que encontramos bastantes vezes ao longo das páginas. Normalmente não sou adepta de cenas muito familiares, mas neste caso, como Lucy não tem amigas, ela apenas se poderia refugiar com a família.
O final já era previsível, mas quem não gosta de um final feliz como este? Quando já nos apaixonámos por Joshua e ele como sempre nunca desiludindo? Joshua é um exemplo do altruísmo escondido que só se revela quando ele quer.
Em resumo, este é um livro muito fofo que nos faz suspirar constantemente, torcer as mãos em expectativa e torcer para que o próximo capítulo seja tão amoroso e divertido como o anterior. Sei que vou relê-lo e que no final vou ter todo o conjunto se emoções que tive como da primeira vez. ...more

I was super excited to read this book - it's on all the romance lists, most anticipated romance novels, best love stories, etc. etc.. Well, I have to say that The Hating Game didn't really work for me and that's a real pity. I'm very sad to come to this conclusion and while reading the book, I tried and tried to really like the story but we just didn't work out.
I mean, I liked the book enough to read it all but in truth, it wasn't a great love story and I didn't particularly connect with the ch I was super excited to read this book - it's on all the romance lists, most anticipated romance novels, best love stories, etc. etc.. Well, I have to say that The Hating Game didn't really work for me and that's a real pity. I'm very sad to come to this conclusion and while reading the book, I tried and tried to really like the story but we just didn't work out.
I mean, I liked the book enough to read it all but in truth, it wasn't a great love story and I didn't particularly connect with the characters. The idea that underlines the book is fun and had so much potential but its execution was really lacking for me. If goodreads had the possibility of half-star ratings, I would probably give it 2.5 stars and not 3.

It all started in the first few chapters: the start of the story wasn't promising. It wasn't really strong in my opinion and, since this is an enemies-to-lovers kind of story, I was expecting a much more impacting opening. I remember thinking that, for someone who has a nemesis and feels so strongly about him, there's wasn't true passion behind Lucy's actions. And then Josh - he was way too cold and unapproachable for me, even once you got to know the real him. There was no heat in the man, no true intensity. I do like difficult guys, softies with a tough exterior but Joshua was a little over the top: too difficult and closed-off for my liking. There was a moment in the story where I thought that there was hope for the book - YOWZERS, that elevator kiss had some real heat! But after that really wonderful scene, it was really downhill for me.

I had serious problems with the plot as well - I don't know about you guys (it might be just me) but I thought the plot wasn't really well structured. I had the feeling, throughout my reading, that the story was very fragmented, there wasn't a real sense of development in the story. Just to give two examples off the top of my head: there some instances where the author finished a chapter and then started the next one exactly in the same moment, with the same scene playing out.
Then, in other instances, you were reading a scene and then, in the next paragraph we would advance in time and were introduced to a completely different scene. This was confusing and really messed up the story for me. I kept thinking that there was no real structure, everything was disorganized and that ruined the reading experience.

Another element that really didn't work for me was dialogue - since the story seemed so fractured, not really organized, I had some difficulty with dialogue. Sometimes, it wouldn't be immediately noticeable who was doing the talking, who was saying what and, if I'm being totally honest, that is one of the things that most pisses me off in a book, I gotta tell you. I mean, I don't constantly need to have the author explaining to me who's doing the talking but it would be good to have some guidelines and sometimes here I didn't have any. I had to go back and work out the order of the sentences and sometimes even that didn't work because the same character would say two things but the author would put the sentence in two different lines and by god, what a mess. I don't usually have this problem with books, so this one really pissed me off. I think it would be great to pay a little more attention to form, I think it would definitely benefit the author's books. I think the writing is nice enough but the form isn't quite there yet.

Now about the most important thing: the love story. I didn't really feel it, I'm sorry. It all seemed so unrealistic, you know? (view spoiler). Just as the story didn't have any real structure, I felt the love interest didn't really develop - it was one step forward, two steps backward. They have so much heat between them but then, they're constantly shying away from each other? And what's up with the horny eyes and the serial killer eyes? And the "can I see your room" moment? Lame. This all felt like two kiddos feeling each other up, not two adults discovering a passion so great that messes all their feelings up. In the department of love, I gotta confess that this one was a major disappointment.

I'm still (probably) going to read her other book 99 Percent Mine just to see if it's better than this one. ...more
