I just finished this book and feel untethered- how do I go back to my ordinary, magic-less life? This is the first book that I have read by Leigh Bardugo but I own a few. And i plan on digesting them immediately. This book was amazing- i'm literally in awe over her word play. Leigh might be one of the most intelligent writers I have ever experienced. This was a dark book about secret societies in Yale- full of dark magic, violence, intellect, and imagery- and I'm not ready to let it all go. I wa ...more

The first 80% of this was yawn, and the last 20% was a solid 4-star mystery. I feel like I recommend this to...Yale students? (It's fine if you like dark academia, but otherwise, a pass). ...more

Aaaaaaaaand this is a DNF. I just can’t get into this one, which is a shame considering how much this was hyped. This is far more boring than I expected and the purple prose is eye-rollingly bad. Also something about the self-importance of the setting just kind of rubs me the wrong way?? Idk. Legendborn did the whole “outsider becomes involved with a secret society at a university and discovers the magic within themselves” thing way better tbh. Go for that one instead.
