The events of the first two books in The Mortal Instruments series come to a fantastic head in this exciting and gripping third installment. Clary’s mother, Jocelyn, is in trouble, and Clary believes that she is the only one who can save her. However, in order to do so, Clary must travel to Alicante, the city of the Shadowhunters… even if it means that she is breaking the law. Danger arises when the evil Valentine’s master plan starts to take shape, and Clary has to help the Shadowhunters reali The events of the first two books in The Mortal Instruments series come to a fantastic head in this exciting and gripping third installment. However, in order to do so, Clary must travel to Alicante, the city of the Shadowhunters… even if it means that she is breaking the law. Danger arises when the evil Valentine’s master plan starts to take shape, and Clary has to help the Shadowhunters realize that they need to work with the Downworlder vampires, werewolves, and fairies in order to prevail.

The perfect combination of action, emotion, and shocking plot twists, City of Glass turned out to be quite possibly my favorite book in the series so far. Clare manages to delve more deeply into the psyche of her main characters, drawing forth an emotional response from the reader as we quickly realize just how much we do care about Jace, Clary, Simon, and co. Jace, for example, developed stunningly in this third installment, and despite the whole woe-is-me tortured soul thing he had going on in the beginning of the book, the book begins to peel back the layers and reveal that he truly is just as scared as everyone else, particularly when it comes to Clary and the depth of his feelings towards her. Clary is a fantastic heroine, as I’ve said before—she’s unsure of herself and frightened of what she is capable of, but at the same time, she possesses such an inner strength that I personally think is grounded by the fantastic people she has in her life, and her love for them.

The plot twisted and turned like no other in this one, creating a rollercoaster ride that had me holding on for dear life. The villain, for example, had quite a few tricks up his sleeve, and he had more to his plan than what I—or any of the Scooby gang (Clary and co.)—anticipated. And there were revelations (which I can’t discuss without spoiling the rest of the book, mind you) that blindsided me and made me wonder why I hadn’t realized it from the start. Though in some parts I felt like the dialogue or the descriptions were a bit repetitive, Clare also has a true knack for writing fight sequences and dramatic scenes.

City of Glass was the best book in the series so far, and could have even served as a solid finish to a trilogy, had Cassandra Clare decided that she only wanted to write three books. Fast-paced, thrilling, and full of romance and plot twists you’ll never see coming, this book—and this series—is not one to be missed.

I didnt't want to write a review until I had read the entire series, so now that I am done here it goes. It was an interesting young adult series on the whole. It is fantasy/sci-fi, and it had warlocks, demons, vampires, werewolves, and shadowhunters-those chosen by an angel to keep humans safe from demons. Series is getting better in my opinion. I liked this book best, so far, because it answered more questions than it left hanging.

* Learned about Valentine and Joselyn and their children: Jonathan and Clarissa, heard more about Valentine and his circle, learned how the Shadowhunters got started by being blessed by the Angel Raziel.
* Simon is just great in this book, loyal friend, strong fighter, sassy commenter, and girl magnet.
* Luke is still one of my favorite characters

Ok so this one is my favorite one in this series so far. The battle with Valentine is finally concluded and in a way that no one will expect. Not only that but most of the secrets that you so desperately want answered finally are, all at once, making you feel like you've got whiplash through the whole book. Cassandra doesn't give you anytime at all to process the previous revelation before shoving the next one in your face.
