OMG I need book two NOW!!! Why are you not out yet!?!?!

So going into this I knew there some controversy surrounding this book, all of which I didn't know completely until someone from one of my book groups filled me in (thanks Becca).

I had saw all the not to nice reviews and 1 star's and I'm going to give it 5.

After reading two back to back major tug at your emotions books, I needed something lighter. Something to entertain me. Which is what this book did.

America Singer is a Five, the caste devoted to the arts. Her family is filled with talent, but that doesn't do much to fill their bellies. This book was exactly the kind of book I was in the mood for. It's light, fluffy, and fun. It totally reminded me of The Hunger Games only in the choosing process and the differences between all the castes. It was kind of funny. I've had people say this book would remind me of The Hunger Games, and I wondered how Kiera Cass was going to combine The Bachelor and "Killing" the competition.

Wow this story was great. I loved America Singer as a character, she didn't let the competition or the crown to change her.

So The Selection is the grandest event in post USA's, Illea. 35 girls get chosen to go and live at the palace for a competition where the Prince chooses his wife-to-be from among them. They go through etiquette training, history class, public interviews and public bonding moments with Prince Maxon so he can decide which one.

Now I am going to admit that I am a big fan of the Bachelor TV series, it is just one of those guilty pleasures that I really enjoy. Also YA Dystopian novels are my favorite Genre right now. This book is basically a combination of the two so honestly it was hard for me not to love this book!!!

America Singer is our Heroine and I just loved her. She lives in a futuristic US where world wars have destroyed what once was. Now people are separated into different casts depending on what type of work they do and how much money you have. The cast are numbered from 1-8. America and her family are cast 5. For the past two years she has been madly in love with a boy from cast 6 and she knows her parents wont approve. Then a letter comes from the royal court. Prince Maxon is of age to wed and it is time for him to find a wife, if you are interested in entering the selection please fill out the form. One girl from each area will be selected with a total of 35 girls. America doesn't want to enter the selection but if she does and she is picked it will greatly help out her struggling family. America is strong character and I love that she stays true to herself throughout the whole book. She is very honest and she is just a really fun character to get to know.

Onto the boys in Americas life. First there is Aspen the beautiful boy she gave her whole heart to, but he is a cast below her and her parents would never approve. He is sweet, and of course he is gorgeous, but I didn't love him. I think that he kinda had attitude and was very immature at times. Then there is Prince Maxon. I am going to admit I adored him. He is such a gentleman at all times and you can tell that he truly cares for America, but hes not sure she feels the same way. I am totally team Maxon in this book!!!

This book was so much fun to read you get all the drama of 35 girls trying to win the heart of one man, but they are all dressed up like princesses to be. This book was honestly one of my favorite reads of 2012 and I can't wait for The Elite to come out in the spring!!! ...more

So this book was admittedly a lot like the show "The Bachelor" but hey, I really enjoyed it! I mean there were a few things I didn't like, but usually when there's a love triangle I'm sure about who the main character should end up with. This time I was about as confused as America. Aspen or Maxon? I bet fans everywhere are also leaning from side to side and I think I'm more of a Maxon fan but it'd be weird if I started wearing a Team Maxon shirt.

This book was terrible. The writing is completely juvenile and practically unreadable. There were absolutely no surprises in the book and I found myself reading it more to find out what stupidity was going to happen next. At least one of the major love interests is the WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD.

This was a great book that was an interesting and quick read. I love when a book is compelling enough to make you lose track of time, which is certainly what happened here.
