This was a fun read but it was a little slow for me. Cate Cahill is a witch and so are her two sisters. Being a witch is against the law and the punishment is great, so the sisters have to keep it a secret that they were born with powers. There mother died years ago and Cate has taken it upon herself to try and help raise her sisters and make sure they don't expose themselves to anyone. Her time is starting to run out in a few months she will become of age and she will have to choose a husband o This was a fun read but it was a little slow for me. Her time is starting to run out in a few months she will become of age and she will have to choose a husband or have one chosen for her by the brotherhood, she can also choose to serve the sisterhood but that would take her away from home and away from her sisters. Her childhood friend from next door is finally coming home from college, she hasn't seen him in four years. She always figured that she might marry him someday but she hasn't seen him in so long and he never wrote or contacted her in anyway so maybe she was wrong. Then there is the new gardener her father just hired. Cate has known Finn Belastra her whole life his family owns the bookstore in town, but she never noticed him like she does now. To help Cate and her sisters come out in society her father decides to hire a governess. To Cate this is just one more person she has to hide from and try to keep her sisters safe. Then mysteriously she receives a letter stating that she need to find her mothers journal and that she shouldn't trust anyone. As she searches for answers she finds that there is a horrible prophecy that might be about her and her two sisters.

Cate is a fun heroine, she has a big heart and would do anything for her sisters. She changes so much throughout the book and learns so much about herself and her destiny. She has made a lot of mistakes in the past but she is always trying to whats best for her and her family even if that means giving up the only boy she has ever loved. I really liked her as a character and felt that she was easy to connect with and like. She has a hard time with her sister Maura who loves that she a witch and is pretty rebellious against Cate. Then there is Tess who is the youngest sister and she is just sweet but a very powerful witch. Even though they have their differences they all rely on each other very much.

Now for the boys first we have Paul, Cates childhood friend. They grew up together and he was always there for her except when she needed him most. For the last four years he has been away at school and in that time her mother died and she was left to raise her sisters pretty much by herself. She has always cared about Paul but can she forgive him for abandoning her? Also is there really more than friendship between them? Will she simply marry him because she has no other choice? I actually like Paul he is a sweet guy and I think that he does truly care about Cate. Next we have Finn, and honestly when the authors describes him I pictured my husband :)!!! Finn has lots of freckles brown hair and is really cute, which is basically what my husband looks like. So of course I think that Finn sounds very attractive, but there is more to him than that. Cate can be herself around Finn and she trusts him. She also finds him very attractive and they defiantly have chemistry, but Finns father died a few years ago and he has to support his mother ans sister. He really doesn't have the means to support a wife right now and the clock is ticking for Cate she only has a few months left to decide what she is going to do.

I really did enjoy this book, it has a great story , wonderful romance, and magic!!! The only thing for me was it took me about half the book to be really into it. There is a lot of background information that you have to learn and it just dragged for me, but once I got into the story I couldn't put it down and I honestly can't wait for book 2 to come out. There is a pretty bad cliff hanger at the end of the book that just breaks your heart a little. I will defiantly be reading the rest of this series. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves magic and witches!!! ...more

I really enjoyed this book, but the ending . . . What's even more upsetting is that the next book is not out yet! Ugh! I wonder how long I will have to wait for it. ...more
