I'm cycling back through some of my favorite le Carre novels and, at least to me, 'The Spy Who Came In from the Cold' is the one that started it all for this great author. It also happens to be the rare book whose film version was equally excellent.

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold by John Le Carre is the 3rd book in the aeries featuring George Smiley. However, in this book, George Smiley is only mentioned in the background wherein at the center of the story is Alec Leamas, a British spy who is sent on a dangerous mission to East Germany.

This is a masterpiece of espionage literature that explores the moral ambiguity of the Cold War era. It tells the story of Alec Leamas, who is sent to East Germany to infiltrate the Communist intelligence

Engaging from start to finish, making no one the hero, taking no captives, this is a must-read for any fan of Cold War historical fiction, spy novels or thrillers. ...more
