Agatha Christie set the standard for mystery novels with her first one. Eccentric genius detective! Isolated country house! Watson-like friend! Locked room! Red herrings galore! Gathering (most) of the potential suspects in one room to reveal what really happened! Surprise twist ending! A great mystery, where all of the clues come together in a believable (well, for what it is anyway) solution. The casual racism, while I guess not surprising given the era, on behalf of two characters hasn't aged ...more
