Okay, so to start with, I REALLY, REALLY wanted to rate this higher! I just love the storeline for this book so much better then the mortal instruments, it has so much more potential.

That said... This read like a online *unpublished* book, like the ones posted on this site. Don't get me wrong, I love the creative writing section... many of those stories would be publishable with the right editor, some are actually better than this book already! But... REALLY?

Problems I had with this book:

Problems I had with this book:

2D characters- I developed very little love for any of the people in this story and was actually a little disturbed that the character I connected with the most was Jessimine. Even that was only through one chapter, before and after she just seems to fade into the background as an annoying twit that I really couldn't pull myself to care much about.

Repeat, again, and again- I noticed in the Mortal Instruments that Cassandra Clare has a tendance to "Info dump" or have her characters stand around saying stuff that they should all aready know, so that we, as the readers know what's going on. I totally understand that, I see it used often in books and although it may not be the most realistic thing to read, it works.

In this book though, she seems to think repeating it over and over will be the only way to get it across to us. By the time she has mentioned certain scar 4 or 5 times, I was tiring of it. Not only that, the characters would repeat the same things over again, that had just been made completly obvious *to everyone, the reader AND characters* just a chapter or 2 before.

London 1878?- Some of the things said, the dialog... well it just didn't seem realistic for the times. I'm not saying anything jumped out at me and screamed "21st century catchphrase!" but some of it just didn't seem... right. I may just be me on this note.

Okay so... I LOVED the storyline for this book! I loved the time, the idea of all the characters, I loved the mystery that is Jem, loved the twists, and so may other things about this book! It's actually very sad that it wasn't written in a way where I could stay absorbed into it. I am not a really nit-picky person when it comes to books. Usually I just read them and love them!

So basicly... I loved it AND hated it... perhaps her editor just needs to be fired. ...more

Shelves: historical, romance, silly, exciting

I really liked this book, even though I've already read the mortal instruments, I found it really enjoyable. I didn't even mind that the character dynamics were almost exactly the same- minus Simon (who was pathetic anyway). One thing that did annoy me was Ja-I mean Will's weirdness around Tessa once he realised he liked her. I know it will probabaly be explained but I just hate all that really forced keeping characters apart stuff.

Holy. Crap.
The insanity of this book s unfathomable. If I were wearing socks right nw, they would be off my feet. This book was full of danger, adventure, romance and British wit.
Will is my absoute favorite character, what with the British wit and the beauty of his actions...
This is one of the best books I've read and I wish I could give it a million stars! (Or at least 6!) ...more
