This grew on me.
I felt like I was watching an episode of Doctor Who when reading this, especially toward the second half. I can definitely see why this was ground-breaking during its time of release.
ALSO ... the narration style was interesting, sometimes in a positive way and sometimes not.
It is definitely a thought-provoking read and I loved the inclusion of science in it. That first chapter was great! It lagged in the middle a bit for me, but I was glad that it picked up.

More like 4.5 stars.
All hail The Time Machine! It's clear that everything modern sci-fi show, movie and book, is rooted in this book. And it should be! Lovely little book by the master H.G. Wells. If it suffers from anything, it's that it's 'of its era', in that it's a cautionary tale about the future - but that's Wells to a T; he was always concerned for our future as a species. It was also a little short, and even at the age of eleven I was a bit disappointed by that. But maybe we should judge each book in its own time? After all, he was writing something original at the time - I can't recall anyone doing any time-travel prior to this.
