I'm sure this is a classic I should like, but I found it oppressively depressing. My rating of one star should not cast aspersions on Steinbeck's writing ability; instead, it merely reflects for my distaste in reading such a bleak tale. ...more

At just 84 pages this is a powerful little book, easily read in one session. So many important messages, but never preachy. Steinbeck is a brilliant writer and a favourite of mine.
