I named one of my children "Lear" due to my love of Shakespeare and of this play in particular. The older I a get (I am now 50), the better I understand and sympathize with Lear, who is at first reading an irrational old coot that is hard to feel empathy for. Simply extraordinary. In my opinion, by far the best of Shakespeare's tragedies, and on top of that, very relevant to the modern world as we, too, seek to transfer authority to our children and perhaps find that we have been too preoccupied with our careers to have the time to understand our children as we should.
