Anyone who knows about this book will recognize it isn't for everyone (not for the faint-of-heart, as it were). Yeah, pedophilia isn't a topic we usually seek out. But Lolita is often on the top 100 list of important American Literature, and there's a reason for that - it's absolutely brilliant. Wow. I am not sure what to say about the book! Incredibly well-written and engaging. The subject matter of the psychology of a pedophile was fascinating and I kept wondering how Nabokov could describe what is going on inside the head of such a man without being a pedophile, himself. The amazing thing is the way Nabokov is able to use humor and other literary tools to lull you into a bit of sympathy for Humbert. The pathos of the story actually brought tears to my eyes. Shocking!
