Again, another favorite of my younger self , which didn't stand the test of time .
I find the mysterious deaths very intriguing and the way Sherlock approaches it , the work of a genius, but the back story always falls flat.
In this book, Indians are considered almost savages , and not in the highest of esteem .. and I realise how lucky I am to have escaped the colonial rule .

Stolen treasure, murder most foul, betrayal, and ruthless revenge! Add a love story--such as it was--for our dear Watson, and there's a great deal to this novella. When I was young, I appreciated the lack of mushy romance in the Holmes' tales, but now that I'm older, I wouldn't have minded having Watson's affair of the heart flushed out a bit more. I must be getting soft and dotty in my old age!

I originally read this in the '60s. The 1960s. Just in case there was any confusion.
