I had heard good things about this book ... so when I finally started reading, I kept finding that I was expecting more. What was the more I wanted? Well, I can’t quite put my finger on it.
It wasn’t the plot. The plot was fantastic. Very cool idea.
It wasn’t the characters. There were several characters, and the story was told from varying points of view, and they were pretty well fleshed-out, with their varying motives. A few of them varied between the “good guy” side and the “bad guy” side — t ...more

I like the idea for this book, the only problem was that it felt like it kept rambling on. I was in a bit of suspense at the beginning waiting to find out what was going to happen, but it felt like I kept waiting for a while for the big reveal or at least something to happen, but it didn't seem to get to it for a while. It did keep me reading though, but perhaps could have been more enjoyable if the book was shorter.

This would have been a great book to read aloud to the kids; full of suspense but not as scary as the Harry Potter series. It's the story of a man who has the power to make words come to life when he reads aloud; literally. The villains from "Inkheart" materialize and then terrorize. It is up to 12-year old Meggie to save her father and stop Capricorn and his vicious gang.

I loved that Cornelia Funke's imagery was unique and not full of cliche's. (ie...night descending like watery ink across a page or something similar). This series seems to promise to be one for book lovers since it references all manner of books as read by her bibliolific main characters. I would love it even more if it weren't so full of ongoing misery.

It was really slow for me. I guess I was expecting more action. Plus the unresolved ending kinda bugged me. Now I feel like I have to read the other books when I'm not sure I really want to, but probably will anyway.
