What Members Thought

I gobbled this book up. Apparently I really enjoy books written in a journal/correspondence way, centered around an incredibly likable woman character. Juliet was funny, quirky and again, so incredibly likable. Really liked this book a lot and couldn't put it down til it was over (which took all of one day). I liked the historical content and my only beef was that the ending happened a little too quickly for me. I would have liked a few more letters between you know who and you know who.

I loved this! I found it witty, humorous, and touching.

Whenever I watch documentaries about WWII I just get so sick to my stomach, but this book succeeds in telling war stories but with an underlying sense of hope and celebrates those courageous individuals who stood strong in the midst of the horror. The main character is so charming and witty and she makes it so you can digest the sad stories. I wasn't sure about the format of the book, only written in letter format, but a few pages into it I was hooked. I left the book feeling surprisingly uplift

At first I didn't like the fact that this book was written as a series of letters, but the characters are so endearing that after awhile I stopped worrying about format. This is a light read but the author's allusions to literary classics are a bonus for anyone who loves books.

This was our latest book club book. At first I was worried since it was written in letters and I kept getting confused as to who was who and which person was writing the letter. After about 1/4 of the way into it, though, it flowed quite nicely and I found myself intrigued to find out what would happen next. Not enough romance or adventure for my tastes :-) but still a sweet, thoughtful book nonetheless.

Great historical details woven into a well written and enjoyable story about the German occupation of Guernsey island during WWII. I'd get a kick out of living next to Isola too!

I really enjoyed this book. Although about WWII, it was light and an interesting angle about the German occupation of the Channel Isles. I wanted "more" because everyone raved about it, but it was...good. Had everyone not raved about it, I might have given it four stars. I felt a little let down, although an easy fast read which I like!

I really liked this book. It was light and heart-warming and like a lot of books based on this time-period, it made me grateful for my life and the lack of tragedy in it. The only thing I didn't like was that the relationship that comes to be at the end wasn't developed as much as I would have liked. It kind of just got thrown in there.

Just read it for the second time. I really enjoyed it. Though, I wanted to know more about Elizabeth's story. That's what really captured my interest throughout the book.

I wasn't sure how I would like a book written in letter form. It did take a minute longer than other books for me to get sucked in, but I did, and I loved it.
