A quick read, very interesting. I heard it was written by a Hoosier author? The only thing I didn't like, and this is me being picky, is that it seemed to make fun of the "Believers" and make them seem like the stereotypical "sheep," uninterested in anything but their Belief and not willing to look for answers to problems scientifically or otherwise. I think it reflects the author's opinion of faith, and we all know that faith is extremely important and that we are not sheep! :)

After I saw the movie, I knew I had to read the book. It was a fascinating tale of an entire city underground peopled by individuals who have no idea that there is anything else. DuPrau got a little preachy but not near as badly as she did in her later books. And this is one of the very few cases when I thought that the movie was just as good as the book.

Interesting concept. However, I felt that the storytelling was quite bland. I didn't really care about the book or the characters until the end when they started to make their journey. The end redeemed the book enough to interest me in reading more.

Abandoned after 2 books.

After seeing the movie, it's actually kind of hard to read the book. I might just skip to People of Sparks!

Loved it and cannot wait to read second book. I've heard bad reviews of the movie though?
