This was an interesting read, it is written for young adults, but I still was really intrigued by it and am thinking about reading the rest of the books in the series.

A quick read, very interesting. I heard it was written by a Hoosier author? The only thing I didn't like, and this is me being picky, is that it seemed to make fun of the "Believers" and make them seem like the stereotypical "sheep," uninterested in anything but their Belief and not willing to look for answers to problems scientifically or otherwise. After I saw the movie, I knew I had to read the book. It was a fascinating tale of an entire city underground peopled by individuals who have no idea that there is anything else. DuPrau got a little preachy but not near as badly as she did in her later books. And this is one of the very few cases when I thought that the movie was just as good as the book.

Interesting concept. However, I felt that the storytelling was quite bland. I didn't really care about the book or the characters until the end when they started to make their journey. The end redeemed the book enough to interest me in reading more. ...more

Abandoned after 2 books.
The 3rd book has low ratings and is a prequel to this book and I'm just not interested and rather than put it off for any longer, I'm going to abandon the series.

After seeing the movie, it's actually kind of hard to read the book. I might just skip to People of Sparks! ...more
