One of the few books where I liked both POVs equally and often you got two perspectives of the same incident.
I was surprised that I had never heard of the Grimke sisters before this book. I didn't realize that they were feminists as well as abolitionists and based on real sisters. Since history is written by the victors, I would think they would be remembered, but I guess that is a testament to the feeling against feminism at that time.

Wow. I loved this book. Kidd is an amazing author. I purposely didn't read the summary, so I didn't realize until the author's notes at the end that this novel is based on real people, and Kidd stuck to the facts in lots of ways. So many things to think about, and I loved how so many complicated feelings and points of view were captured. There is about a half a page of sexual content that wasn't gratuitous and that I didn't find offensive (and I'm a prude). The Grimke sisters were pretty amazing
