I really should have loved this book, given that it's historical fiction (WWII homefront era, even -- my favorite!) and it's got a good message about finding happiness even when life doesn't go as planned.
Yeah, as a friend has pointed out: when I have high expectations for a book, I am usually disappointed!

Interesting story about a woman during World War 2, sent to meet and marry an unknown farming husband as arranged by her father, because she is pregnant. It is an interesting perspective about life at home during the war, and what it was like in Japanese internment camps. Good story about relationships, but at times it was a little slow.

Someone described this book as thoughtful and quiet and I would have to agree. I really enjoyed it and especially loved that it took place in parts of Colorado that I've driven through and been to many times-La Junta and Trinidad. It made it easy to imagine the scenery and land. My own grandfather was a young farmer during this same time period not very far away.
