I quite enjoyed this book. I didn’t realize that the story was based on actual events and actual people back in 1917. I wasn’t sure at first that I was going to like it, what with all of the deception that the two main characters perpetrated. But I realized that it started out as something sweet and innocent - just a joke. And the world blew it way out of proportion. Things like that happen everyday in our own spheres of life. Based on a true story, it was interesting to see the author's take of what really happened when two girls took photos of fairies back in the early 1900's. I'm a little tired of the "old person with dementia who could clear it all up if she'd just remember" cliché, but they didn't rely on her knowledge too much in the end. Clean read, but not all that exciting.

I feel terrible leaving such a low star review, but this was “just ok” to me. Contemporary stories are hard for me to love, and the writing just didn’t capture me for some reason. I think it would have helped if I’d known this was based on real events before I got to the very end. The love story wasn’t believable for me, and I just never really fell in love with the main character Olivia.
