Charles Martin is definitely a fantastic storyteller. I enjoyed this book and the character development. The faith aspect was present but not in a “pushy” way.

This was not your typical Christian novel. It was definitely more action filled and graphic. It was a page turner, even though the content was hard. I will definitely be continuing the series.

This is a hard topic to read about. The pure and unadulterated evil of those associated with sex trafficking is hard to comprehend and I admire real life heroes like Murph who fight against it. Martin does his research and it shows (but sometimes it bogs the story down for me); I found myself skimming all the boating terms and geographic details. I also found it hard to believe that Murph and Gunner were able to fight in spite of their excessive injuries (reads a lot like an action movie in whic ...more

Why have I never heard of this author? He's now a new favorite! I love the way he tells the story. It is exciting but also touches the heart. Murph is a man with many identities. He takes care of an abandoned church on a small island, he works for a government agency, recovering lost women, and he is a good friend. At the start of the book he embarks on a mission to return the ashes of his best friend to the ocean. To get there, he takes his boat. Along the way he picks up a dog, a mother search ...more

This was a tough book to get through. It was plenty interesting, but the main character rescues girls being sold into prostitution slavery, like Operation Underground Railroad. It’s heartbreaking to think of these teenagers getting addicted to drugs, stolen from their families and sold to the highest bidder.
Also, this book is like an action movie, where the character keep getting shot at and beat up, but somehow survive and keep coming back for more.
I am so grateful for those who really do this

I’m still listening to the audiobook and my heart is breaking. This book is so powerful. We need to do our part to end modern day slavery.

A solid 3.5 rounded up. Fast paced story with a few intense segments. Some of it was pretty unbelievable and there were plenty of eye-rolling coincidences. But I found the characters enjoyable and it was a decent and fun read.

He is such a good writer. Loved the characters so much! Hard topic, but it’s very real.
