I have mixed feeling about this book. I was first drawn to it by the beautiful cover and the story sounded intriguing. I enjoyed the mystery (although, it was fairly obvious) and the relationship between Robert and Aurelia. The ending felt a bit rushed and left me wanting more. I try not to give spoilers in reviews, but it’s unavoidable with this one. So I will just say that throughout the story we hear how Aurelia’s mother left when she was just a little girl, the king leading her to believe th ...more

don't bother.
this book makes me realize that good writing must be more difficult than it looks. there are few books out there that i can just put down and walk away with absolutely no inclination to pick up again. the characters were flatter than a pancake, to mix some metaphors for you, having no reasonable motivations or reactions. blegh.

I enjoyed this book. I finished it in two days!

Aurelia is the crown princess and someone is trying to kill her.

Robert comes from the frontier to try to protect Aurelia.

They are friends from childhood as friendship sparks, so does romance. The would be killer is also revealed.

I look forward to reading more from Anne. Thanks for a fun read.

I would probably give this 3.5 stars. A fairly predictable mystery. I figured it out a little more than 1/2 way through the book. I did not like how it ended, it made me mad that the person behind the assassination plot got away with it.

Such a great historical story, with a dash of mystery and romance. I would have loved a little more on the romance end, but it was so cute (and clean).

Aurelia is heir to the throne, but wishes to live her life as she pleases. And someone is out to kill her. Robert, son of the former royal spy, comes back from the unsettled region of the kingdom to help solve the mystery of the assassination attempts.

I started off liking this book because the character came to life so well, and she got along so well with her sister. I finished the book liking it for different reasons. I find I am quite a sucker for royals and secrets and disguises and plots and clever characters and a slow-budding romance.

2nd book is less awesome.

Maybe I was just in the mood for a mystery, but I liked this book. It even surprised me at the end.
