I loved this book!! I had gone to the bookstore looking for current fiction for my 9 year old to read that is clean and wholesome. This was one of three books I bought and the first I've read. It was wonderful! It's about a young orphan boy in Korea in the 12th century that lives with a man under a bridge. I loved this book. The symbolism is great, and the story is well written and laced with good lessons of dedication, sense of family, and honor. It is the type of children's book I wish there were more of.

This book received the Newberry Medal, but was very slow. I enjoyed learning about the Korean culture and that time period I also liked the way Tree-ear interacts with Crane-man. I enjoyed the book in general, but I think I enjoyed it a lot more than my 10-year-old son would.

A heartwarming, Newbery-winning story in totally unique setting. I mean, how many other books about 12th century Korea can you think of? That's what I thought.
