This book received the Newberry Medal, but was very slow. I enjoyed learning about the Korean culture and that time period I also liked the way Tree-ear interacts with Crane-man. I enjoyed the book in general, but I think I enjoyed it a lot more than my 10-year-old son would.

Tree-ear, an orphan, lives under a bridge in Ch’ulp’o, a potters’ village famed for delicate celadon ware. He has become fascinated with the potter’s craft; he wants nothing more than to watch master potter Min at work, and he dreams of making a pot of his own someday.
