Reader thoughts: I don't normally like historical fiction. I thought, with some magic, this one would be worth trying. (Also, the new cover is amazing, and MRK is part of the Writing Excuses podcast.)
This had the same strengths and weaknesses of other historical fiction novels.

Jane Austen meets Magic. I loved this book. I found it because the author does a podcast with Brandon Sanderson. Like Sanderson, Kowal's magic system is fully-developed, intricate, consistent, and original. It makes so much sense that I almost wonder why it doesn't actually work in our world.

Very "Jane Austen" ish. A great story overall with it's own little twist to a classic story. Enjoyed it very much!
