As far as the romance goes this is not my favorite. I loved the characters and thought they were a good match but it wasn't really a romantic story. Much more of an adventure filled with lots of laughs. So much fun. Tons of bantering, lots of wit and humor.

Though I wasn't initially engaged with the rather drawn-out and verbose beginning, I quickly found myself hooked into one of Heyer's most madcap adventures of those I have read (on par, or even more outrageous than The Grand Sophy). Despite the convoluted plot and rather tenuous role of chance threading its way through the novel, I enjoyed myself immensely.

A hysterical book! Ok, I admit, the plot started getting a little fantastical, but that was part of the humor. I enjoy books set in this time period, I had fun with Heyer's writing style, I grew attached to the characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story she unfolded for me. A great book!

Fun, laugh out loud kind of book.
Loved another Georgette Heyer book!
Fun easy read.
Very enjoyable (and quick read) Jane Austen type style. I look forward to reading more by Georgette Heyer.
Dec 2019: Evidently 8 years is enough for me to forget details. “Read” this in the audiobook version this time and thoroughly enjoyed it again. I believe I could do without Cedrick’s constant exclamations though.

I liked this book. It was full of action and a little bit of romance. I liked it a little less than the other two books I have read by this author and that is why it only has 3 stars. It really deserves 3 3/4.
