I think this is one of my favorite retellings of 'The 12 Dancing Princesses' so far (as well as throwing in some Beauty & the Beast and a few other fairy tales/myths). The cover makes it look childish, but I think this would appeal to YA readers too (it was in the Juvenile Lit section). At first I thought she should have set Reveka as being a few years older, but at the end I realized why and I hope there's a sequel! Shelves: 1st-person-narrative, fantasy-historical, retellings

Reader thoughts: This was a fun book! It never dragged, and there were a few times where I felt sucked into the book, but it wasn't phenomenal. It wasn't funny and only a bit clever. I'm just not usually impressed with historical fiction.

I liked that this wasn't the traditional fairy tale remake, but rather a blend of several fairy tales, and it was sometimes hard to tell who was the good guy/bad guy. Very well written too I think. ...more
