The reread hits different -- more of an easy comfort and a look back at who I was when I first read it. Loved it.

Also, I'm rereading the series in anticipation of the new book in the series which is hypocritical of me since I've rolled my eyes at all the other big YA series that get unintended recent installments. It's just full on bs marketing and makes me hate publishers even more. I'm still gonna read the new Graceling book with some form of excitement.

Will say tho that the full cast audio

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very cool idea. It was well written and the adventures was compelling and interesting. It was a fun story There were times it was a bit slow, but most books have down time. I thought Katsa was a pretty strong heroine and the reality of her character was pretty realistic. :D Despite a few things I didn't agree with(see below).

I did not agree or really like the fact that because Katsa didn't want to get married and have kids she thought it was okay to just be

FYI: THIS IS THE ONLY BOOK FROM KATSA'S PERSPECTIVE. Some readers were upset to find this out once finishing this book and refused to read the other books in the series which is a HUGE MISTAKE because each book is better than its predecessor. I think the author's choice to write each book from another character's perspective allows readers to experience more of the Graceling Realm than possible if it was just from one person's perspective. Since I knew that "FYI" going in I tried, unsuccessf ...more

This book deserves 4.5 stars, but I rounded down for a couple reasons:

1. I felt that the story was a little lost. I recognize that the characters themselves felt lost throughout the book, but it just didn't feel as strong as it could be.

2. The main character, Katsa, doesn't like the idea of marriage. I really hoped that she'd come around to the idea... but she didn't. I'm not sure what I think of that. It wasn't bad, just... not what I expected.

That's it. Other than that it was a wonderful book.

I enjoyed this book, the story, the idea of innate abilities (we wish!), and the adventure. But it wasn't engaging enough to make me search out the sequels. ...more
