If I've read correctly, this is one of B. Shakes' later plays, and one definitely gets the vibe that he really phoned it in on this one. A haphazardly pieced together plot, a young prince that is immediately forgotten after his death, a villain that makes little to no impact on the other characters...and a bear.

Hermione and Paulina were interesting female characters, though. Also there was a bear.

I wonder if the bear gets to come out and bow during performances of this play.

Read because I wanted to see if it was connected to the modern telling of Winter's Tale. I can see that the original story (not this newest Hollywood version) has some similarities. Interesting. Funny. Tragic. It's Shakespeare! ...more
