Puerile, infantile and misogynistic plus maybe a few more adjectives I could possibly add if I could be bothered. Publishing house editor on vacation or just quit after he read the manuscript. Cue manuscript flying through office door to land with a resounding thunk on admins desk. One small yellow sticky note attached with a WTF! Editor leaves office never to return.

Well this book got done and my dishes and other household work didn't, if that tells you anything. I was sucked into this book, but I'm not sure if that was a good thing. The chapters are super long, which was a complaint of mine the whole time I was reading it. Yet, I wanted to find out what happened (Franzen is an expert of flashback writing) so I plunged into it nightly. Overall I thought it is an interesting read, but not one of my favorite books of 2011.
