What Members Thought

I loved the second book, Dolce. It was easy to follow this book which takes place in a country French town during the beginning of the German occupation. Although the French and Germans are at war the author tries to create a story showing the “humanness” of Bruno and Lucille. The first book Storm in June has so many characters. I found it hard to keep the minor ones straight. The author died in a concentration camp before finishing her 5 volume series.

After finishing this book, I am still a little curious as to why it was placed on the Banned Book listing. Perhaps it had to do with how the French were characterized between the different levels of social placements.
Either way, my favourite piece was Appendix II where it reprints the letters from Irene, her husband and various friends during the war. Very sad, indeed.
