Kate Jacobs weaves a cozy tale of friendship, self discovery, and above all else, love in her debut novel. We knitting aficionados forgive her mistakes during the intersperse knitting tips from Georgia's book, because knitting is more than yarn and technique. Allora, premetto che il libro mi è stato prestato, quindi per fortuna non ho il rimpianto di averlo comprato; sembra poca cosa ma in realtà è importantissimo :)

Partiamo dalla storia: Walker & Figlia è il nome del negozio di filati di Georgia Walker, mamma single alle prese con una figlia che si avvicina all'adolescenza. Nel gestire il negozio Georgia viene aiutata da una serie di persone, tutte donne, tutte con una storia personale travagliata: ad esempio Anita, vedova, che riscopre l'amore anch Allora, premetto che il libro mi è stato prestato, quindi per fortuna non ho il rimpianto di averlo comprato; sembra poca cosa ma in realtà è importantissimo :)

Partiamo dalla storia: Walker & Figlia è il nome del negozio di filati di Georgia Walker, mamma single alle prese con una figlia che si avvicina all'adolescenza. Nel gestire il negozio Georgia viene aiutata da una serie di persone, tutte donne, tutte con una storia personale travagliata: ad esempio Anita, vedova, che riscopre l'amore anche in tarda età; o Darwin, studentessa universitaria sposata ma costretta a vivere da sola perchè il marito lavora a Los Angeles (la storia si svogle a New York), o ancora Cat, amica del liceo di Georgia che improvvisamente torna sulla scena dopo un'assenza durata più di 10 anni. E non le ho citate tutte! Oltre al ritorno di Cat, Georgia dovrà anche fronteggiare il ritorno di James, il padre di Dakota, che per tutto il tempo ha solo mantenuto economicamente la bambina; insomma, seguendo gli sviluppi delle varie storie si arriva al finale, assolutamente imprevedibile e forse anche eccessivo.

I personaggi sono ben delineati dal punto di vista caratteriale, anche se in alcuni momenti inevitabilmente mi sono domandata che cavolo stessero facendo.. Certi cambi di mentalità sono troppo repentini, soprattutto per quanto riguarda la storia di Cate: per quanto Georgia possa essere buona e tutto, come può farci pace dopo due giorni che la vede? E poi James, questo improvviso ritorno di fiamma risulta un pò costruito: perchè proprio adesso e non anni prima, visto che stava a crogiolarsi nella solitudine a Parigi, pensando a lei?

Gli ambienti sono carini, soprattutto l'idilliaco negozio dove tutti i problemi sembrano risolvibili e tutte le commesse sono super disponibili; poi bellissima la casetta della nonna di Georgia in Scozia, il ritiro spirituale delle tre donne (Georgia, Dakota e Cat) è il momento migliore del libro, peccato che duri ben poco.

Passando allo stile, in certi momenti sembra di avere un masso al collo e si procede veramente a rilento, in altri per fortuna il morale si risolleva e si riesce a prendere una boccata d'aria; resta il fatto che ho impiegato non so quanti giorni a finirlo.. E poi il finale, un condensato di tristezza incredibile!!

Giudizio finale: non dico pessimo perchè in certi momenti si è salvato, e comunque alla fine volevo sapere dove l'autrice sarebbe andata a parare.. Diciamo che non lo avrei comprato, forse l'avrei preso in biblioteca.. Credo che possa piacere alle amanti di Nicholas Sparks, autore che non apprezzo perchè scrive libri troppo pesanti dal punto di vista emotivo.. Da 1 a 5 probabilmente gli darei un 2/3, non di più.. ...more
