Being a somewhat new-to-fantasy reader, I wasn't sure what to expect from Throne of Glass when I read it last year. While I really loved the world that Sarah Maas created and the characters who inhabited it, I also wished that the trials Celaena had been put through to win a position as the royal assassin had been a little more exciting.

My Thoughts: I loved Throne of Glass when I read it last year so I was very excited for Crown Of Midnight! And it didn’t disappoint one little bit.

We are back with Celaena and she is now Assassin to the King. She does his odd jobs and handles his disputes basically. He sends her out to kill people and she attempts to finish each job.

The King gives her a new job where she has to figure out who is a trader. He tells her he will give her name after name until they find the person responsible. Firs My Thoughts: I loved Throne of Glass when I read it last year so I was very excited for Crown Of Midnight! And it didn’t disappoint one little bit.

We are back with Celaena and she is now Assassin to the King. She does his odd jobs and handles his disputes basically. He sends her out to kill people and she attempts to finish each job.

The King gives her a new job where she has to figure out who is a trader. He tells her he will give her name after name until they find the person responsible. First, it starts with her old friend Archer.

Celaena sure does get herself tangled up in some webs. She has so much in front of her that she has to handle.

And Celaena has some hard decisions to make regarding Dorian and Chaol. I still like them both so much. Each one is so different and it makes me fall for them both. I want her to be with both guys. That is the problem with boys in books. Sometimes, you just like them both and its so hard to decide!!!

I can’t believe what happened and who died. I wanted to cry so hard. It was devastating and heartbreaking. And, then once we find out the true history of Celaena’s life. I didn’t see it coming and I was so surprised I wanted to throw the book across the room. It makes so much sense though. And, it was so crazy that I wanted to laugh and laugh.

Once again, I just love this story. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. They are must reads for me and favorites. I just love the characters, I love how badass she is and I love both love interests. I also love the plots of these. They are just “magical.” I feel like I’m engulfed in this other world where I am right there with her experiencing everything she feels.

Overall: Love Love Love! I will keep recommending this series to my friends. Another one of my favorites of the year. Love the characters, love the plot, such an amazing story.

Do not finish this book at lunch time and have to go back to work. That is the very first thing I can tell you, the very first thing that comes to mind, when I think of Crown of Midnight because HOLY CRAP!

If I have said it once I have said it a thousand times, I’m not a fantasy reader. I’ve tried it and have been successful a handful of times but unsuccessful just as much. It isn’t my usually jam. Crown of Midnight is the second book in the Throne of Glass trilogy which features our favorites Celaena, Chaol, Dorian, Nehemia and that adorable dog Fleetfoot. Celaena is now the King’s Champion and with that comes a level of responsibility. Trying to work towards her own freedom and keep the people she has come to care about safe, Celaena is waking a very dangerous line, but a line she sees fit to balance. But as Celaena is far too aware of, not everything is as it seems. And when one single night changes everything for her and those she loves Celaena decides it is time to take no prisoners not matter what the cost to her.

So my summary does the book no justice. I mean how could it when this book is filled with awesome, and awesome that I definitely do not want to give away. There are some major twists and turns, some I saw coming, and some I didn’t, but it is something you need to read for yourself to find out what they are. What I can tell you is that Maas is a genius for getting me to love this series the way she has with her writing, for getting me as invested in these characters the way that she has, and for getting me to want to read anything and everything she writes. And considering if you look at my auto-buy list and see that all the others are just about contemporary authors you’ll truly see what this means.

I could gush and gush and gush. I could tell you how much anxiety I felt reading part of this story. I could tell you about the time I cried on the train reading this book (true story!). But honestly they are just words. All you need to know is that this book does not suffer from second book syndrome. It actually makes the story stronger when all is said and done. In the end you will be clamoring for the final part because Crown of Midnight will get you invested no matter what you tell yourself. A DEFINITE must read series! ...more

Maas seemed to create the perfect sophomore book! Crown of Midnight not only made it’s way to the top of my favorite books of 2013, but it completely & without a doubt blew away my expectations! Sequels are hard to write, but Sarah J. Maas seemed to create the perfect sophomore book! I didn’t think it was possible to love Crown of Midnight more than Throne of Glass, but I was definitely proven wrong!

I know a lot of complaints about Throne of Glass were due to the lack of action from the competition, but in Crown of Midnight Sarah J. Maas does not hold back. We get a nice look into Celaena’s inner badass assassin and those scenes always left me with a rush of sudden adrenaline. (I totally wish I could be a badass fighter like Celaena!)

Not only does Sarah J. Maas give us more action, but she delivers a heart-warming friendship & romance that will forever leave the characters of the Throne of Glass series in our hearts. I don’t want to spoil the romance too much, but it will leave you blushing madly, smiling like a madwoman, giggling like a teenage girl, crying like a baby, and frustrated beyond belief. It’s the kind of romance which I could fangirl about endlessly!

Oh, and the characters were taken to a completely new level. Celaena is complex. No joke! This girl is one tough cookie with a bunch of unexpected surprises. We get to learn a lot about her history (which is INSANE) and what shaped her into the woman she is now. She can go from a shopaholic girl to a badass fighter to a caring, carefree girl to an emotionless assassin to a best friend to a ruthless killer to a hopeless romantic. Celaena has so many different sides to her that make her who she is and it was a great experience as a reader to read about all of them. And, I cannot wait to delve deeper into her character! Oh gosh, Chaol. I don’t even know where to begin. He stepped it up in Crown of Midnight. I didn’t have much of a preference for either boys in Throne of Glass, but now well… Chaol stole my heart. His unnecessary but adorable protectiveness of Celaena was too cute! And, the way he teased Celaena showed a more charming side of Chaol. There were just so many moments that stole my breathe away that I could barely deal. We can’t forget Dorian! He’s left behind a bit in Crown of Midnight for his own good as Celaena puts it, but we get to see a more mature side of the prince. Personally, I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Dorain (and the other characters)!

The world Sarah J. Maas created was already captivating in Throne of Glass, but her writing pulls us deeper into this world. We learn more about the history, the politics, the magic behind it all. The plot was executed so well and I was so invested into the story that I actually laughed out loud, shed a couple tears, gasped in surprise, smiled in delight, and yelled in frustration. It definitely held ALL of my attention!

Crown of Midnight is an emotional roller coaster that keeps you mesmerized from page one to the very end. It had its happy moments, sad moments, romantic moments, badass moments, nerve-racking moments, lol-worthy moments, tear jerker moments, surprising moments, frustrating moments. Crown of Midnight had it all which is why it was such a phenomenal read! And, if you don’t believe me, then READ Crown of Midnight, and try to disagree with me!

Meh - tons of moments that I saw coming. I read it pretty quickly but it's written in a way that is just OVERLY dramatic. Plus my boy doesn't seem to winning this one. Tons of other people like it though - maybe I'm missing something.
