I saw this book in a classroom library about 5 years ago, and I've wanted to read it ever since. I should have gotten to it sooner--this book rocks.

Some people have complained that this book wasn't feminist enough, but since I didn't go into it with any inklings of it being a feminist novel, that didn't bother me. It's about a 15-year-old girl who is just now beginning to realize that life isn't fair--because she's a girl. She's not a feminist. She's only beginning to be bothered by li

Frankie is a normal girl who just happened to grow some fantastic boobs the summer between her Freshman and Sophomore year at an uppity New England boarding school. With the new boobs comes a new boyfriend who thinks she's "adorable". Frankie doesn't want to be "adorable"; she wants to be a force to be reckoned with.

I like E. Lockhart. Her books have a point, but are still fun to read. While I might have had my issues with this year's Printz Prize list (Jellicoe Road? Really? And where the heck

I guess I've never added an actual review for this book, although this is now the 5th or 6th time I've read it. Oops.

And Frankie is as honest and believable a character as I can find in YAL, even though her actions are outlan

amazing book! not only does it bring into question the power struggle between genders, it also criticizes the panoptic nature of institutions (particularly the boarding school frankie attends). fun stuff with word play also (neglected positives and all that). frankie is one of the best characters i've come across. she's smart, subversive and assertive. great role model for any girl. even the ending feels realistic. i'd love to see this in a discussion setting! ...more

I really enjoyed this book, but it also raised a lot questions within me as well....like do I really like Frankie? And is that because I am really like Frankie? Food for thought...I have to think about this one. I will be buying it for my personal collection because I liked it that much, but again....I am torn on my judgments of most of the characters.
