La casa ideale ha sempre un locale di disimpegno.

Va bene. Mi devo ricredere. Pensavo fosse un’emerita schifezza. Invece tutto sommato no. O meglio, poteva essere molto peggio. Poteva esserci una storia d’amore alla Harmony con frasi smielate da Baci Perugina e scene di sesso alla Beautiful ad esempio. Oppure potevano esserci descrizioni dettagliatissime di inenarrabili atrocità compiute sugli animali, giusto per smuovere la categoria degli animalisti che è più folta di quella dei vegani. Invece

I picked up this book because I liked the cover and the title. I heard about it because of the upcoming movie, but I managed to avoid spoilers. So I didn't know anything about the plot, I only knew it was a famous book, recommended by many.
And I recommend it, too. It's well written, and the love story is not as overwhelming as I feared. My favourite carachter was Walter: I was a little shocked when he "left" the narration, but I don't want to reveal any details, in case you haven't read it yet.

I must admit, Ms. Gruen has an amazing talent when it comes to setting the atmosphere. Moving through the pages, you become immersed in the surreal and evocative, only to be washed anew in a capacious frivolity without so much a hiccup between the two. It is this talent that propels you through the book without you ever noticing just how deeply attached you're becoming to the cast or how much history you're absorbing.
