As many of you know I don't read contemporary YA. I read the first book, Pushing the Limits and just loved that book. The world read very real to me and I was surprised that many people criticized it for not feeling real. As someone who has had friends in the system as well as working with kids in the system for a short time, I can tell you it did feel real to me. Still, as much as I loved that book, I admit I worried that I would not love this one as much. Thought maybe it would suffer from sec ...more

Overall, I really loved this book. However, I'm knocking a star off due to my issues with Beth and how she felt and acted toward her mother. ...more

Huh. I didn't think I like angsty teenage high school romances that much. But McGarry is softening my heart with this series. I must admit at the beginning I was picturing a Beth/Isaiah combo. Who's this new guy? What the heck? New school? Slow down a minute. If you were imagining all the same characters from PTL you will be sorely disappointed. They are there, but in the background. Except for Beth's mom and her douchy boyfriend, they take a seat right up front in this one, and of course Beth. ...more

I almost gave up on this one at the beginning because Beth was foul-mouthed and abrasive. But I got sucked in and wanted to see how it all turned out. Very good story development. Plus our leads got a relatively happy ending. I finished this one in 2 days.
