First off, this is an amazing premise. Three magic sisters who are all vying for queen, and they have to kill one another to see who gets the crown. Fantastic! It had all of the plotting, backstabbing, and political intrigue that I love in fantasy with such an interesting world. We have this sort of mysterious island set in the real world but apart from it. I love that we get Billy's perspective of, "Oh yeah, on the mainland, we all think you're pretty weird."

Not gonna lie, this one felt like a slog up until the last quarter of the book. I'm usually pretty good at keeping characters straight, but I had issues here. There are three main characters, three sisters who each have a different kind of magic and must one day kill her sisters to become queen.
Each sister has her own cast of characters.

This was so much better than I was expecting. I wasn't sure the plot would be believable, but it was. I thought it was an interesting story and I loved the ending! Not expecting it at all. Excited for book 2. ...more
