Meh. I seem to be in the minority about this one. I didn't find Audrey Rose (I had trouble with the name and flashbacks to that 80s book) particularly smart though we are told over and over she is and I didn't find her very empowered. She was too silly at times - like heading out alone when she had no clue what she would do if she came face to face with a killer. She was too concerned about convention - always acting as if Thomas' attraction was unsettling when she was drawn to him in such a juv ...more

This book was a slow build for me. There were a few times I almost wanted to give it up, but I am ultimately glad I stuck with it. While I can appreciate a strong female lead, please for the love of all that is holy, stay at least a bit true to social mores of the day. Banging me over the head with feminism gets a bit old after a while. I didn't mind the bloodiness of the novel or the depictions of autopsies. If I could go back to younger years I would follow my dream of being a mortician, so I ...more
