A wonderful light read with just the right amount of depth to the issues. I feel so hungry right now!

This is the second book that I've read by Elizabeth Acevedo and I just love her writing style. This book captivated me from the beginning. Emoni's story is one of triumph and and perseverance, and it was told so beautifully. Emoni did not let anything stand in her way and she took the role of motherhood seriously. I loved how this wasn't a story of how being a teen mom robbed a young woman of perusing her dream but one of being a young mother pushed her even more to make sure that her dream came ...more

If you’re a bit of a foodie and like lyrical writing you may really enjoy this. Poetic and lyrical. Short chapters. Aspiring chef and foodie who also happens to be a teen mom inspired by a new culinary class with a trip to Spain for Spring Break. She is Puerto Rican African American. Book broken into 3 sections - sour, savory and bittersweet. Each section begins with a recipe. Unique and flavorful.

I was looking forward to this book as Poet X was wonderful and hoped this book would be equally as relevant and engaging. This book was amazing!!!! I loved it even more than Poet X. The whole time I was reading it I was just hoping that things would work out for the main character and cheering for her the entire way. LOVE!!!

Whoa! All the feels here. I enjoyed every minute of this book. Boricua ❤️love! I haven’t read a YA in recent history that shows young woman stepping into and owning her own power! Go read this book now!
